Living Intelligence
Every home makes the next one better.
BV is building a system that connects design decisions with what happens after a home is lived in.
Current status
BV is currently in the Learn Deliberately phase.
We are building this learning base deliberately, starting from our relaunch projects. We do not claim any patterns as findings yet; what exists is a consistent way of recording, from the first project onwards.
What we record
Eight records for every project.
- 01
Life Profile
Who lives there, their ages, daily routines and special needs — the basis for every spatial decision.
- 02
Success criteria
What the client says will make this home a success, written down before design starts.
- 03
Decision Record
Key decisions, the options considered, BV's recommendation and the reasoning.
- 04
Changes & cost
Every scope change with its cost and time impact, approved before the work is done.
- 05
Site issues
Problems that came up during construction, their causes and how they were resolved.
- 06
Material & supplier performance
Accuracy, quality and issues with the materials and suppliers used.
- 07
Living Review
What residents experience once the home is in use, at T+30, T+180 and T+365.
- 08
Lessons
What we would repeat, and what we would decide differently, on the next project.
What we review
Three review points after handover.
BV does not want its relationship with a home to end at the handover photo. Through the Living Review, we come back to see how the decisions made during design and construction actually work once the home is in use.
- T+30Early Use Review
The small things you notice in the first weeks: access, storage, lighting, new routines.
- T+180Living Pattern Review
The patterns that settle in: which rooms are used, which are not, and which have changed purpose.
- T+365Lived Outcome Review
A full cycle of seasons and upkeep: what works, and what we would decide differently.
Digital by default; site visits are selective, depending on the package and need.
How lessons are used
We do not treat one project as a general truth.
Every finding carries an evidence level. A recommendation for the next project only moves up when the evidence grows.
-
1 case
Anecdotal
A note from one project. It becomes a question to check on the next project, not a rule.
-
several cases
Emerging Pattern
The same thing appears across several projects. It starts to be raised as a design consideration.
-
repeated internal evidence
Established Internal Pattern
Enough repeated internal evidence. Only at this level does it become a standard BV recommendation — still adapted to each home's context.
Right now, BV is building this learning base with discipline, starting from our relaunch projects.
Client privacy
Client data is not published without permission. Learning notes are used inside BV; only case studies the client has approved appear on the website, with personal details anonymised.
